PetroReconcavo signed on September 29th the purchase and sale contract for the supply of natural gas to Companhia Potiguar de Gás, Potigás, to deliver 236 thousand m³/day of natural gas, starting January 1st, 2022. The contract signing took place at Potiguar E&P’s head office, in Mossoró, and was attended by the PetroReconcavo’s CEO, Marcelo Magalhães, and the Technical and Commercial Director of Potigás, Sérgio Henrique Guimarães de Paula, as well as the Governor of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Professor Fátima Bezerra.

The supplied to Potigás will come from the 32 concessions, which have been operated by Potiguar E&P since 2019 in Rio Grande do Norte, when the company completed the purchase of the first oil cluster of Petrobras divestiture program of onshore fields. According to a disclosure on the distributor’s website, the two-year contract will represent a 35% reduction in the value of the molecule, with savings generated by the new contract being passed on in full to the final consumer.

“The initiative will enable an even more plural environment for the commercialization of natural gas, besides being an opportunity to expand business, since the Potiguar Basin is an excellent gas producer. The contract will allow an increase in demand, driven by lower prices for the final consumer. We have constantly invested in the reliability of the production flow systems to ensure a safe and stable supply to our customers,” said the CEO of PetroReconcavo, Marcelo Magalhães.

According to the president of Potigás, Larissa Dantas, the contract represents a gain for Rio Grande do Norte. “Not only the final consumer of piped natural gas will benefit, but the entire state. In addition to the gas chain being executed entirely in the state, it will also enable the attraction of new investments, new industries to RN, directly impacting the entire economy with the generation of jobs and income for the people”, she says.

The governor of RN, Professor Fátima Bezerra, reiterates the positive expectations from the signing of the contract. “We expect the reduction in the value to be passed on to the consumer and that natural gas will be a differential, an important factor for Rio Grande do Norte to bring companies to the state and generate jobs for our people.

The beginning of the supply is linked to the conclusion of ongoing negotiations with Petrobras for access to the Guamaré Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN).
